| Jerez airport to operate new flights to northern Europe from next spring. | New routes will link the area with Manchester, Copenhagen and Helsinki
| Spanair will fly to Bilbao and Barcelona. More flights to more destinations and more often. Jerez de la Frontera’s international airport (La Parra) is planning to significantly expand its flight programme as from March next year. The airport is making the most of the current battle between Spain’s airlines as well as the growing interest shown by foreign tour operators in the Costa de la Luz. New international destinations include Manchester in the UK, and Scandinavian cities and there will also be more flights direct from Jerez to Madrid, Barcelona and Bilbao.
The new direct link between Jerez and Manchester comes thanks to the expansion of Monarch Airlines into the province of Cadiz. The firm is already selling tickets for the service which will start to operate on March 25th. There will be four flights a week.
The growing popularity of the province of Cadiz and the Costa del la Luz has led two Scandinavian tour operators to embark on sending tourists directly to Jerez airport. The Scandinavian branch of the British group My Travel is to launch a direct weekly link with Stockholm as from next spring and another weekly flight between Jerez and Copenhagen as from the summer. The aircraft used will have a capacity for 160 passengers and hotel rooms have already been reserved in Jerez, Conil and El Novo.
Meanwhile the main Finnish tour operator, Aurinkomatkat, has announced the start of a Jerez-Helsinki link also from next year.
